Is Home Birth Safe?
This is one of the most common and important questions we like to answer. Are out-of-hospital births reasonably safe?
Studies show that home or birth center births achieve similar safety statistics as hospitals when 3 criteria are met:
1. Home birth is planned
2. A skilled attendant is present; and
3. Medical back-up is available.
Statistics show that a Certified Professional Midwife can achieve the same safety statistics similar in low risk populations as in the hospital. In the state of Montana, the Board of Alternative Health gives a licensed midwife specific guidelines. We can only help mothers give birth that are low risk. By following these guidelines, the safety of home or birth center births are virtually the same as hospital births.
